Quieter, faster first page, and the toner lasts far longer.

An inexpensive B&W laser, IMHO, would be better for a small business. Face down? Face up? Can you put a tray of checks (in order) so Quicken printed them in order? Ink Jet printers can be inexpensive and provide color, but they will eat you alive in ink costs. One check per page is a lot easier to deal with (and you have the voucher.) Getting back to the printer-if you have to buy one and you use this for your business, then you might wish to look at how paper (check stock) is loaded.

(I don't know what Costco checks are like.) I hope you got voucher checks as that will make your life a lot easier-especially for a business. While you can adjust the print layout up and down, you can't move various fields around to accommodate non-compliant checks. (the same stuff you would hand write on a check.) The most important thing is that the checks are Check21 complaint as that is a standardized format. You won't need to worry about magnetic ink: the checks should have everything pre printed on them, and the only thing you are printing is the payee, amount, etc. Your type of printer doesn't matter-that is personal preference if you want to go ink jet, laser, etc.

Thus, that is why I suggest simply getting the native Mac version of Office and forget about running the Windows versions on your Mac. I have been using Office Mac at home for nearly 30 years and Windows versions elsewhere with little to no compatibility issues. So, the files you work on at work (word, excel, PPT) will all open up without conversions in your Mac version of Office. Now, I think your bigger concern is something you shouldn't be worrying about: the Windows and Mac versions of Office are highly compatible. I don't suggest that, though, as the cost of doing that (purchasing Windows and possibly Parallels) is greater than a copy of Office for Mac.

If you already did own a copy of Office for Windows, then yes, you could install it under Parallels or Boot Camp. You wouldn't care less about needing Windows. You can forget about either Parallels or Boot Camp because it is a program written for the Mac. If you purchase Office for Mac, that is all you need. Boot Camp requires a restart to switch between running Windows or running MacOS. Thus you can have both Mac and Windows applications running simultaneously. The main difference between Parallels and Boot Camp is that the former is more convenient in that it allows you to run Windows just like another program. Note: you must buy that licensed copy of Windows, so that isn't cheap.

Parallels (a purchased software product) or Boot Camp (included free with your Mac) provide similar functionality: they both allow you to install a licensed version of Windows onto your Mac and use it essentially as a Windows PC. What caused the difference to begin with (opening balance, deleted transactions, duplicates, etc.)-only you can figure that out. (Is it uncleared? Cleared?) As for adding an adjustment, that should get your running balance to being correct for the ending statement amount. Was it right originally? It should definitely be reconciled.

I can't see your data to tell you if this is your opening balance at fault. The new reconcile uses the sum of all reconciled transactions as the opening balance amount calculation, so past problems aren't covered up. cleared transactions compared to difference between ending & starting balance), you would never know.

Your account's running balance could be way off, but if the timeframe you were reconciling was correct (i.e. In the older reconcile, Quicken "trusted" the numbers you entered (at least for the opening balance). This may or may not be totally tied to your opening balance adjustment. FYI, during the last critical update, you actually got upgraded to a mid year release of 2016.
